Local and foreign volunteers are eligable to apply
The first category of volunteers will be in to teaching conservation programs in schools and communities, help in research and identifying eco hot spots for conservation.
Requirements: Basic or advanced knowledge in working with nature and the environment and a bit of training in teaching or public speaking.
The second category of volunteers are required for working with us on the creation of nursery beds for indigenous medicinal plants, trees and water purifying plants.
Requirements: Basic knowledge in plants and gardening, but crash courses will be available in our center for beginners.
The third category of volunteers required are for water resource management and for the creation of solar powered water reservoirs for our projects in Rubona. This will involve harvesting rain water into man made water ponds, purified by water purifying plants and solar powered water pumps.
Requirements: Basic knowledge in water system management and basic knowledge in solar energy. Beginners are welcome as basic training is provided at our centre.
The fourth category of volunteers are Information Communication Managers for working on archiving and collecting data for our research and information centre. Furthermore volunteers will do bird species identification and account records.
Requirements: Birding knowledge (Training provided), basic computer knowledge, photography and database management.
Individuals or groups are free to choose all categories if they qualify .
Living in our project, accommodation and fees:
Mahamba information and research centre will provide accommodation for our long distance and foreign volunteers with basic amenities, plus food for a fee. Mahamba Wild Africa will provide the tools and equipment needed for the work, but one is welcome to bring their own tools or equipment for use. Basic free training and project guidelines will be provided to applicants on arrival.
Our center is powered by Solar energy and has recreation facilities: a small bar, a library for research and a lounge for social gathering and relaxation. Mahamba Wild Africa facility also has a kitchen and a mini supermarket to provide most basic needs, one would require: from sanitation materials to stationary and most basic household needs for individuals or groups that wish to cater for themselves.
Our volunteering projects are available for a period of 1 month to 6 months, according to individual or group applications. Mahamba Wild Africa will not cover transportation fees and volunteers will be required to pay a fee of 150 dollars per week for the accommodation, excluding the meals.
